Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
California Training Benefits:
Before you start your Training Program:
  • Call EDD-UI within the next few days (Unemployment Insurance). WIA is considered an approved funding program.
  • Ask EDD/UI: Will I continue to receive EDD-UI benefits while I am in a training program approved by WIA? Depending on the answer, you might decide to reconsider taking a training program. EDD-UI will also ask you if you have notified EDD-UI of your interest in training by the 16th week. The answer should be "Yes"
After you have a Training start date:
  • Question 5 on the Claim Form: have you started a training program? If the dates on teh claim form falls within the start date of your training progarm, mark {Yes}
  • Once EDD-UI receives this form, your UI benefits will temporarily stop until all verification is complete.
  • You will receive a letter in the mail stating an interview date. Make sure you are available for this interview. Not being available for the phone interview will not only prolong you from receiving your benefits, it may, sometimes disqualify you from continuing to recieve UI-benefits.
During the phone interview, be prepared to answer the following:
  • Name of the Training Provider (school)
  • Start date and end date of the training program.
  • Is this training program government funded? Answer: WIA
  • Name of the WIA contact person
